LARP is an acryonym for Live Action Role Playing.

And here's the gist of what that means.

If you've ever tried a table top role playing game (i.e. Dungons&Dragons, GURPS, etc) then it's a lot like that, except instead of sitting and talking about the actions your characters take, you get up and play out the actions that your characters take. (for the most part. You don't actually fight people if your characters get into a fight. Don't panic!! Keep reading.)

Each gaming system will have different methods, but all of them will have a way to determine the outcome of certian actions, (i.e. a contest of skills between to characters, or a physical confrontation.) The game master, (in our case he/she is called the storyteller) will referee these situations, apply the rules and be the final say in the outcome.

You will create your characters, (or play one we've generated if you don't want to go to that trouble) and they will have certian physical stats, skills and emotional and/or intellectual temperments. You will use these things as a guide for how to decide how your character might react in a given situation, then you act that out. (That's the role playing part.)

The storyteller's job is to create the atmosphere of the overall story, referee conflicts, and keep the story moving at an enjoyable pace.

That's pretty much a bare bones description of what LARPing is. If this is all new to you then you might want to go online and do some reasearch about LARPs and the different systems used ect.

You might want do a search for White Wolf and go through the different sites you'll find.

And just 'cuz I like 'em check out Steve Jackson Games. They've got a lot of great stuff.
